Our Life Members are part of the reason our great sport is where it is today. We thank and honour the players and members of CVA for their continued commitment they have given to our great sport.
This ladies below have been recongised from their years of playing or umpiring, coaching or managing and/or volountering their time to give back and keep vigoro growing within our community.
Vera Dean
Vera was a great player for cairns she also played for queensland in the 1930's
Collette Crappe
Mrs Crappe has been a life member since around 1978. Mrs Crappe was very instrumental in bringin in 6 junior teams to our Junior Compeition and also held a number of different roles from cairns scorer to cairns manageress for junior over a number of years.
Joan Vico
Mrs Vico has been a life member since around 1978. Mrs Vico was also very instrumental in bringin in 6 junior teams to our Junior Compeition and also held a number of different roles from cairns scorer to cairns manageress for junior over a number of years.
Nita Fleming (Deceased)
Mrs Fleming ran CVA from the secretary position for over 20 years. She held this postion before computers so it took a lot more effort to organise things without email. Shen then held the position of president for a nuber of years before moving back to her home town of Mackay. Mrs Fleming was also a qualified umpire.
Carol Healy
Mrs Healy was secretary/treasurer at a very young age.
Robyn Scoble
Mrs Scoble is our hard working Life Member. She was awarded life membersip in 1994. She is a qualified umpire which she has been for many years. She has coaches many teams - mostly junior teams from the Edmonton area and is a legendary in the area becuase of this. She would then after coaching and umpiring them on a Saturday morning back it up and umpire a game on Saturday afternoon.
Margaret Aitken
Mrs Aitken is our "Lady" of Vigoro. She held the position of president for many years and then did the position of treasurer for some years as well. She was the voice of reason with a very calming influence and was always good to have on hand in any disputes. She was also a qualified umpire.
Shirley Galvin (Deceased)
Mrs Galvin was a colourful member, she loved colour!! She held the position of president for some years and was also one of our longest serving players, having played from when she was a child until she was in her 60's and still had a good eye and a dynamic throw. She could think of a story for every occasion and was never lost for words.
Jackie Rogers
Mrs Rogers has coaches a number of junior teams over the years, she has also held the position of secretary and president of CVA. She was awarded her life membership in 1993. Mrs Rogers has also been a manageress for QLD teams and has travelled as Coach/Scorer/Manageress for various Cairns Teams over the years. She has put alot of time and effort just doing what needs to be done for CVA.
Lorraine McGill
Ms McGill is a loyal member who is always there, she was a very accomplished player and in her own admission ended her playing carerr too early but hasnt severed ties with CVA. Ms McGill represented Cairns & QLD on numerous occasions as a player, she has also coaches QLD U18 sides and has been a Selector. She has held a number of positions over the years for CVA from President to Treasurer, Secretary to Now Vice President. She will always be ther to organise and help with fund raising. Ms McGill has also coached many successful junior teams - assited by Fran Secombe previously and now by Jeanene Lynam.
Jenny Fletcher
Mrs Fletcher has coaches junior teams, is a qualified umpire and has held nearly all the positions on the executive committee at various times over the years.
Jeanene Lynam
Mrs Lynam has been a life member since 2011, she brings to CVA many years of coaching experience from other sports and uses this to great advantage with our Junior Teams in particular. Mrs Lynam has also played vigoro for QLD and has been involved with the committee for a number of years. She currently holds the position of President, and in 2018 became a badged umpire.
Helen Kaine
Mrs Kaine was awarded with life membership in 2013, she has scored more games of vigoro than we can count. Mrs Kaine normally scores locally for jays, then for the Cairns Senior Team in carnicals and has aso scored for the Queensland Team at the All Australian Titles. Mrs Kaine has also held a number of positions on the committee from selector to vice president. She is always on hand to help with juniors and never to afar away to help solve a scoring issue. Mrs Kaine is a great asset to CVA
Janice Burgoyne
Mrs Burgoyne is our newest life member having recieved life membership in 2018. She has been a player locally for many years, and has also played for cairns and qld over the years. Mrs Burgoyne has been once of the driving forces behind a local team Dolphins for many years. She has also been on hand for any event and is continually helping CVA in any way.
